Office PhotoOptometric Associates of Pittsburgh set their sights on quality eyecare from an experienced point of view. Our mission is to provide complete, exceptional eyecare in a positive manner with the patients well being foremost in our mind.

Your vision is one of the most vital connections to daily life. With your personal and professional life so closely related to the ability to see clearly and comfortably, it is important to have eye health and vision service that you can trust. Doctors Mallinger and Eger offer a combined 55 years of experience in providing quality eye care services, expertise in serving patients of all ages and treatment of a wide variety of visual and ocular disorders. We offer emergency services to address after-hour eye care needs. We do participate in most managed care plans and vision plans, as well as Medicare.

Fifty years ago, Dr. Bernard Mallinger started the practice in Oakland. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Pittsburgh and is a graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Dr. Mallinger is a diplomate of the Gesell Institute of Child Development at Yale and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. He is the staff optometrist at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Monroeville and for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Dr. Maria Higgins Eger joined the practice in 1999. She received her undergraduate degrees from Millersville University and her doctorate from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Dr. Eger is also a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry and is the staff optometrist for HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Sewickley. She was voted "Young Optometrist of the Year" for 2003 by the Western Pennsylvania Optometric Society.

At our practice, all patients are thoroughly examined for general eye health, glaucoma and systemic conditions that can compromise ocular health and function. Our doctors are trained to treat unique eye problems such as low vision, perceptual deficits and binocular vision impairment, refractive surgery consultation and all types of contact lenses.

For patients considering refractive surgery, we offer complete consultation, along with pre- and post-surgical management services. For patients who prefer contact lenses, we carefully determine which lenses are appropriate for their eyes and lifestyle. Contact lenses are available in soft and gas-permeable materials. We are experienced in colored contact lenses and special lenses for cosmetic, keratoconic and post-cataract needs.

To keep you seeing clearly, we have assembled an extensive selection of high quality, fashionable eyewear. Our skilled opticians can help you choose the frame that flatters your features, as well as the proper lenses to satisfy your visual needs. We specialize in thin, lightweight, cosmetically appealing lenses. In addition to more traditional frames, we carry specialized boutique lines, such as Calvin Klein, Vera Wang, Donna Karan, Flexon, Silhouette, Strip and Rim Titanium and Ogi.

To schedule an appointment or request more information, please do not hesitate to contact us. Discover how our personalized approach to quality care can enhance your point of view.
