Over 60,000 students are enrolled in colleges and universities in the City of Pittsburgh. Where do they all go?

Carlow University

Carlow University was founded in 1929 as a private, Catholic liberal arts college for women. While continuing to serve primarily women, Carlow’s enrollment is open to all. With enrolment just under 2,200 students and a student to faculty ratio of 12:1, Carlow students enjoy a personalized educational experience rooted in a long tradition of academic excellence. Academic programs are offered at the school’s main campus in Oakland and at its satellite campuses in Greensburg and Cranberry. Carlow also has extensive programming for graduate and nontraditional adult students.

Carnegie Melon University (CMU)

Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) was founded in 1967 when the merger of Mellon Institute and the famous Carnegie Tech formed what is now a global research university with more than 11,000 students, 84,000 alumni, and 4,000 faculty and staff. Recognized for its world-class arts and technology programs, collaboration across disciplines and innovative leadership in education, Carnegie Mellon is consistently a top-ranked university.

Chatham University

Chatham University, nestled on 39 acres of tree-lined streets located in the heart of Shadyside, was founded in 1869 as the Pennsylvania Female College. The University is a private, fully accredited, nonsectarian institution, consisting of three distinct Colleges. Chatham College for Women, offers baccalaureate degrees to women only. The College for Graduate Studies and the College for Continuing and Professional Studies, offers master’s, doctoral degrees undergraduate, graduate and professional educational both on site and online to men and women.

Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC)

Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) has four regional campuses: Allegheny, Boyce, North and South. The college has an interdisciplinary approach, which responds to the educational and training needs of the businesses and industries in the Allegheny County region. Approximately 31,221 students attend CCAC annually on a credit basis and 32,921 on a non-credit basis for a total of 62,604.

Duquesne University

Duquesne University is a private, urban, Catholic university founded in 1878. Situated on 49 acres overlooking the downtown area, Duquesne offers educational opportunities in the liberal arts, business administration, education, health sciences, music, natural and environmental sciences, nursing, pharmacy, and leadership & professional development. The university also houses a law school and many other 66 graduate programs and 22 doctorate degree programs.

La Roche College

La Roche College is a private, Catholic, co-educational, liberal arts institution offering courses in undergraduate and graduate studies. Founded in 1963, the college enrolls approximately 1,425 full and part time students from 20 US States and over 47 countries. The campus is conveniently located to major shopping districts and it is a short trip from city attractions.

Point Park University

Point Park University is an independent, four-year, co-educational institution located in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh. Founded in 1960, the campus has transformed from small business training college to a thriving academic hub in the center of downtown. Today, the University enrolls more than 3,900 full- and part-time students in nearly 70 undergraduate programs and 11 graduate programs.

Robert Morris University

Robert Morris University, founded in 1921, is one of the leading universities in the region and among the largest private institutions of higher learning in Pennsylvania. Approximately 5,000 full-time and part-time undergraduate and graduate students from nearly every state and 40 countries are enrolled at RMU. The university offers more than 30 undergraduate degree programs and 18 masters and doctoral degree programs.

University of Pittsburgh (Pitt)

University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) is a public, state-related, nonsectarian, co-educational institution. Founded in 1787, the university enjoys a national reputation for research and scholarship. It enrolls over 34,000 students at four regional campuses in addition to the main campus in Oakland. The 132-acre campus has over 90 buildings, which houses Pitt’s 15 undergraduate, graduate and professional schools.

Pittsburgh offers diverse opportunities for students to pursue their academic and career interests.
